Earlier today Xiaomi announced its sub-brand POCO and their first phone the POCO F1. The brand POCO is being led globally by Jai Mani and it uses the supply chain, service and quality straightaway from its parent brand.
Talking about the phone itself, it comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which comes with a copper heat dissipation system which POCO likes to call “Liquid Cool” System. On the stage, Xiaomi showcased some benchmark comparisons to the OnePlus 6 and the Galaxy S9. And every time the POCO F1 performed better, thanks to the cooling system.
Jai Mani, later on, went ahead and mentioned how flagship phones generally end up with small batteries around the 3000 mAh mark, to address poor battery life on flagships, the F1 comes with a rather large 4000 mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 through the type C port and the 9V 2Amp charger comes in the box.
The device also features dual 4G LTE and also comes with 4G+ for India. F1 can come with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage which is expandable using a microSD card. UFS technology hasn’t really been seen in devices around this price point. So, this comes as a welcome move.
The display is a 6.18” Full HD+ display and it can go up to 500nits of peak brightness. The display is of the notch kind, as is the case with most flagships today. The notch houses an IR lens, IR lighting, front-facing cameras and some other sensors. The notch also features an incall speaker which can double up like a speaker during music and videos.
The colours include Graphite black, Steel Blue, Rosso Red. There also exists a special version which POCO calls as the “Armoured Edition”. On the rear, the F1 features Sony IMX363 sensor and 5MP Samsung sensor in a dual camera module. The main sensor is the same as the Xiaomi’s Flagship, The MI 8 The pixel size is rather large at 1.4 microns. POCO compared the F1’s focusing capabilities to the S9 and the F1 fared better. The camera also features Real-time AI photography which helps with Backlit portraits and scene detection across multiple lighting conditions. The front camera features a 20 MP unit along with pixel binning technology which effectively makes the pixel size around 1.8 microns.
Talking about the software, it features MIUI for POCO. Xiaomi showcased the POCO launcher which now also supports the app launcher. According to the brand, the main focus of the device is performed through and through. So they’ve made related changes to MIUI. Xiaomi has guaranteed security updates at least once every quarter and Android PI update in the 4th quarter of 2018. The phone also features Project Treble.
